Before the CETA ceremony, during which diplomas were given out, the University conducted its main ceremony on the lawn in front of Gengras Student Center. There, Dr. Chittaranjan Sahay, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, received the James E. and Frances W. Bent Award for Scholarly and/or Artistic Creativity. Dr. Sahay’s various research projects have led to improvements in the reliability of electronic components used in everything from cell phones to defense systems. Here in CETA, he has updated the mechanical engineering curricula and the laboratories used in departmental classes, taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the college, and consulted with major businesses and government agencies.
Two CETA students, Craig Dolder, Acoustics and Music, and Robin Kizirian, Computer Engineering, received Regents’ Honor Awards as the top two students in the College; and another, Kevin Cremona, Audio Engineering Technology, received the Student Government Association Gavel for his service to the University. Among the various activities Kevin participated in, he served as president of the SGA this last academic year.
At the CETA ceremony, Dr. Sahay announced the recipient of the Girija & Ahilya Devi Sahay Endowed Award for Excellence, named for his parents. This award goes to the graduating senior in Mechanical Engineering who has demonstrated excellence in his or her studies and shows high potential for a career in the field. This year’s recipient is Jonathan Silver, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with Acoustics Concentration.
Also announced at the CETA ceremony was the recipient of the Tae Soo Kim Traveling Fellowship for graduate architecture students. The winner this year, as reported earlier here, is Tyson Dorman.
Here is a sampling of the proceedings as caught digitally by various photographers.
